What is RYA Powerboat Level 2?
RYA Powerboat Level 2 is the internationally recognised qualification for powerboat handling. It is a practical, hands-on course designed to give you the skills and confidence to operate a powerboat safely — whether you are new to boating or looking to formalise your experience.
Curriculum
What you will learn
Boat Handling
Steering, throttle control, acceleration and stopping. You will develop confident control of the boat in a range of conditions.
Manoeuvring
Slow-speed manoeuvring, turning in confined spaces and precise boat control — essential for marina and harbour environments.
Coming Alongside
Approaching and leaving a berth, pontoon or mooring safely and with confidence.
Anchoring
Selecting a suitable anchorage, deploying and recovering the anchor, and understanding holding ground.
Coastal Navigation
Introduction to charts, buoyage, tides and passage planning for coastal waters.
Safety & Emergency Procedures
Man overboard recovery, fire, flooding, distress signals and understanding your responsibilities as skipper.
Two Days on the Water
Course structure
Foundations
Introduction to the boat, safety briefing, basic boat handling, throttle and steering control, slow-speed manoeuvring and coming alongside.
Skills & Assessment
Anchoring, coastal navigation, emergency procedures including man overboard recovery, and final practical assessment.
Entry-Level Experience
Learn to Drive a Boat

Take the helm for the first time with our one-hour introductory experience. No previous experience required. A perfect stepping stone towards RYA Powerboat Level 2 — or simply an unforgettable hour on the Mediterranean.
